bridal bouquet : My BMs dresses are celery green, so I don't have many color optionsthat I can think of. I'm thinking of going with just daisies or maybejust magnolias. Our wedding will have a Texas flavor (not gingham, but southern-like). I wonder what flowers are in season for a Julywedding in Texas? The opposite of green on the color wheel is technically red, and you mighteven be able to pull off oranges. To be safe I'd check with your florist'ssuggestions on color. My personal opinion, I'd stick to white - Daisies would look very 'spring'and fun, magnolias would give you more of a formal look than daisies - bothwould be very pretty. :)My wedding is in Texas in May and I believe the Bluebonnets are in fullbloom around our time... Of course it may be too hot so everything mightjust be brown. *lol* Ahh, Texas summer weather. :)Celedon is a very neutral color and I'd suggest going to a fabric store andbuying a half yard of a material the same color as your girls dresses... Itdoesn't have to be expensive but the same color... Then take this to a craftstore that has a lot of flowers and ribbon.. Use the material as a backgroundand put the flowers and ribbons against it and see what colors look good.. Youwill be surprised...
bridal bouquet : my florist recommended two bridal bouquets: one for me to hold and walk downthe aisle with and one for me to "throw the bridal bouquet". The floristsaid it's a bad idea to throw the bridal bouquet because it has that hardplastic holder that holds the flowers in place, and that the holder couldhit someone inadvertently during the bridal bouquet toss. I've never heardof this. Makes sense. But is she just trying to get me to buy more flowers? The Florist said to get a cheaper bouquet of flowers to throw. Is this a wayto sell more flowers or has anyone heard of this before? I think this is quite common, though the usual reasonI hear is that brides want to keep the bouquet rather thanthe plastic holder being a danger (though I can see herpoint). Some florists have the "throwing bouquet" as partof the bridal bouquet that is removed before throwing.Still, I'm sure some brides don't have a separate throwingbouquet--especially as some choose not to throw the bouquetto begin with ;-) I wouldn't say your florist is tryingto gouge you unless she's charging an arm and a leg forthe throwing bouquet (the cost should be minimal), butyou don't have to go along with it if you don't want to. bridal bouquet : thanks everyone for the suggestions, advice. . .and the garter anecdotes ;)I think we're going to skip the garter thingee. Kind of glad there's a wayto keep my bouquet without seeming selfish about the toss part. Now aboutthat "saving the bridal bouquet" part -- are people keeping it beyond thetime it wilts? Do you preserve it somehow? How?You can buy flower preservation kits (read: silica gel crystals) at mostcraft and hobby stores, if you're doing this yourself you will probably haveto take the bouquet apart and dry each flower individually, then put it backtogether. I'd take it to a florist for this one. I took the easy way out, hung my bouquet (18 red roses) upside down from the ceiling (where the catswouldn't be able to bat it around) for a few weeks, now it's a lovely driedbouquet that I can keep in a vase, put in a shadow box, or whatever.I don't know about you, but I wanted to keep my bridal bouquet and have itpreserved. I also didn't feel like spending all that money on flowers tochuck in the air! I had my bridal bouquet done (without the plastic holder)out of 18 red roses, and had my "throwaway" bouquet done with 5 red rosesand 5 white carnations. The girl who caught it was delighted, I got to keepmy bridal bouquet, and it wasn't that much more expensive to get thethrowaway. I guess if you want to get one depends on how sentimental youare and do you really want to throw away your bridal bouquet? bridal bouquet : My parents and grandparents owned a flower shop for 40 years. They ALWAYSmade two bridal boquets- the 'big' one for the bride to use and keep, and amuch smaller one (which they included as a 'complimentary' thing at nocharge) to throw. The thinking was two fold: 1. many brides like to keeptheir boquet as a keepsake and 2. the brides boquet is usually pretty big,and the holder that keeps the flowers in place IS heavy and can potentiallyhurt someone.I've heard of this, too. No, your florist isn't trying to gouge you. You canget a bouquet of carnations in your wedding colors and toss that...that'spretty inexpensive. I had a friend put her bouquet in a shadow box. I'm notgoing that far, but I think they are a nice idea if you really want to keepyour bouquet and do the toss as well.Due to the many weddings were I was dragged into the middle of a group ofreally serious girls, willing to push, throw elbows, trip you to get to thebouquet....I won't be doing a toss. Three of my single friends have asked menot to. whew!It seems like no one did what I did for my wedding bouquet. I reallywanted fresh flowers for my bouquet, and had a small silk bouquet madeas the "toss" bouquet. bridal bouquet : how do i choose my bridal bouquet?...should it go with the colour of myoutfit?...i'm thinking of an organza or silk flower istead of freshflowers....any suggestions?I hate to recommend the bridal magazines*, but they are helpful in this.I recommend going thru one, or more as needed, and tearing out all thepictures of flowers that you like. Don't examine the images toocritically. You might like flowers on a cake for their colors ora bouquet for its shape. Once you've assembled your collection of images, then go thru them andtry to determine what it is that you like about each one. You can also do this on the internet, but it is hard to assemble thepictures in one place unless you have a color printer. You can putlinks to them from your webpage, I suppose, if you have one.*I don't like the bridal magazines because I think they are scams to getus to pay as much as possible on weddings. I found my ideal bouquet in a bridal magazine - cut out the picture, took itto the florist, and that's what I'll be carrying. It's a bouquet of Fireand Ice roses, with stephanotis throughout, and greenery around the edges(no tulle).
