bridal designer : Anyway, back to Vera Wang, it was interesting how she was talking aboutshowing that bridal dresses can be sensual and body conscious, while stilllooking "bridal". I especially liked one she was fixing in her shop onthe model, with gathered ruffles. It was very body-hugging, but had theseadorable ruffles and "fluffy" elements to give it that "bride" look.The dress that she herself wore to her wedding, I thought was utterlygruesome. It was baffling (or, maybe not, paradoxically) that this bridaldesigner would wear such a bad dress to her own wedding.... it was like,too many ideas going on at once.... while her own dresses, by contrast,are cool because they put together two or three ideas that work withoutoverwhelming each other.I miss the fluffy, all-lace dresses of yore! It is quite an experience towear one.... to wear anything that requires a couple of petticoats, inthis day and age. Very fun, very "fairy tale". I don't see too manyfairy dresses nowadays that move me. Most of them are either created tomake the bride look like a FAIRY (i.e. with a tulle ballerina tinkerbelleskirt), rather than a fairy-tale princess. And the other "big" dressesare so loaded down with cutouts and beading and junk that a person wouldbe drowned alive in them. Where is the good fluff? I wish I could designa good fluffy dress.
bridal designer : To find out more about the designer Moonlight, I suggest you pick up acopy of "The Bridal Gown Guide" by Denise & Alan Fields. (They are thesame people who wrote "Bridal Bargains.") The Bridal Gown Guide givesyou the low-down on most of the major wedding gown designers. You'llfind ratings of each designer, size charts, gown descriptions WITH stylenumbers, as well as contact information and instructions on how to finddesigner gown catalogs.I recommend this book to all my clients and I use if almost every daymyself. As for my opinion of Moonlight gowns, I love Carole Hai's use oftulle and chiffon, as well as the pearl encrusted bodice designs. Hergowns are definitely in the "fairy-tale" category. They are ratherpricey but are worth the money. This designer uses high-quality fabricsand has a very reputable customer service record. I've had many clientspurchase Moonlight gowns through Discount Bridal Service (DBS) and theyhave all been pleased with the workmanship and design.I hope this information helps! bridal designer : I suppose anyone who's known me for any length of time could havepredicted this would happen...I'm almost done with my wedding dress for my August 17 wedding. I washoping to be done before now, and indeed am nearly so, but I've beenputting off getting my custom covered buttons done.So sure enough I call the lady that I had intended to send my stuff out to- Pat Mahony in Lodi - and she's out of town until the end of the week,and since she's already been out a month her husband says things arestarting to stack up...1) How much turn-around time could a backed-up Button Lady possibly needto do 39 3/8" ball buttons? And,2) Who else do we know out there that does this sort of thing?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve predicted I would be sewingon buttons at 2am on Friday night and I can't let him be right!Pam, if you get stuck don't be afraid of covering the buttons yourself. The trick is to run a line of basting stitches around the edge of thecircle you cut out according to the size on the back of the package. Place the circle over the shell, pull up the basting thread so the fabricgathers evenly, and snap the back part in. Then snip your thread tail. I've done this successfully many times.
