bridal hair : I totally agree..this is your day! no one should tell you what to waer orwhat color it should be! if you wish not to waer white because your familywishes you not to, there are some really lovely dresses in off colors likeivory or bone colored..or even pinks and purples..this month in CN's Bridesmagazine there is a lovely light purple dress..its on page 39..its achristian Dior ad..but its an example..etiquitte can say whatever it wants..traditions have been altered so much inthe past years that it seems like they dont apply..im not saying they arewrong..but you should do what you want to do..and do what you feel wouldmake your day memorable!!!Hi and congratulations ! I am 30 years old with a5 year old son ( Ryan my little sweetheart ) froma previous marriage. I am going to be married onJuly 4th 1998 of this year and no matter whatflack I receive from writing this here goes. I amgoing to wear a white or Ivory ( will depend on MikesTux color ) wedding gown if I can find the rightone for me. I feel I made all the mistakes on my firstgo around and hope I have learned enough to notmake them again. I didn't wear a white or any colorwedding dress the first time, family said it wasn't rightbecause we lived together several years before wegot married. I really regretted this. I did the receptionthing because both families felt we had to have oneeven though I really didn't want one. We ended upplanning a mid size formal wedding even though I reallywanted to elope. I know all of these things were in partmy fault because I let them happen but I was to immatureat the time and had no real idea of what I wanted or whoI was.I do agree that in some issues family considerations areimportant. No one wants to hurt any ones feelings butthis really is a day for you and your fiancee. Its veryimportant that you choose what both of you would want. What does your fiancee think? Does he support thefamily consideration or does he think you should wearwhat you want? Remember its a day you want to lookback on with the fondest of memories. I know thiswedding will be the one I dreamed for the first time. I have made it a point to explain to all the relatives thatthere advice is welcome but Mike and I will be planningthis in the manner we choose. For the most part wehave everyone's blessing. Best of luck to both of you!

bridal hair : PS. I feel more comfortable since we are paying for the entire wedding and such..........I have no problem with lots of tulle and a pretty train, really, but it dependson your community. If your family thinks you can't wear white (what centuryare they living in? ;-) ), are all your relatives going to be shocked if youwear a veil? What if you wear a veil but no blusher? Or a chin-length veilinstead of fingertip? Or a pretty bridal hair ornament with a tulle'suggestion' of a veil instead of a true veil? The appropriate train length also depends on where and what time of day theceremony is held. A formal evening wedding in a big cathedral calls for areally long train, whereas a less formal daytime garden wedding invites notrain or a short sweep train. What about an ivory, pale metallic, or pastel gown with white accents, possiblyincluding a white veil and headpiece? A white rose bouquet? It really isn't that difficult to 'look bridal' even without train and veil. The veil makes it easier, but the dress style and bouquet will do it. And youcan wear some sort of bridal headpiece without a veil attached. However, ifyou really want train and veil, regardless of what your family might think, more power to ya!

bridal hair : I am getting married on the 1st of august 98. I have 3 children from myfirst marriagethey are 9,7 and 5. I am wearing an ivory wedding dress with a short train,a veil (2 Tier) which I will wear back. We are having a church wedding ( Iwas married in a registry office last time). The etiquette police would behorrified (to bad). It is your first marriage I like ivory or some of thepale pastal dresses are beautiful. You can wear a wedding dress just changethe colour if it's a problem. I am sure that whatever you wear will lookwonderful. Just tell those who think they know all things to get stuffed.Have a wonderful dayRegardsKathryn in Australia.I'm going to put my 2 cents in now. I don't understand why you shouldn't wear aveil or white. If thats what you want wear it.Who cares what anyone elsethinks. Your only doing this once so you better do it right the first time. Thefact of the matter is that 99% of the woman getting married now should wearveils according to traditional etiquette. White dresses and veils were only forvirgins and I have yet to meet a woman getting married who is still a virgin. If you are I commend youbut the reality of it is most are not. I'm not I'mgoing to wear white and a veil over my face as I walk downthe aisle. My fatherwill turn it back and then give me away to my fiancee. Anyway I think pastelslook tacky for the bride but thats just my personal opinion. Some woman don'tlook good in white and need to wear off white or ivory. If you don't "need to"and want to wear white do it. Its your special day and I don't believe anyonewill not be "shocked" if your wearing a veil. The only person who might be isyour grandmother. This is the 90's and most people wouldn't think anything ofit. Anyway good luck with your decision.

bridal hair : full sit down dinner (heavy hors d's w/ modified open bar and cake)monagramed napkins/matchesglass clinking for kissingintroduction of the wedding partyendless #'s of predetermined dancing arrangements (just our first dance)goofy line dancesbridal hair (although a pro make up job would have been nice)bridal shoes (i wore ivory pumps I already owned for the ceremony, andsneakers for the reception)First dance (really, dancing in general, it just all seemed so cliche)baskets of pansies on all the tables (it was a cold spring and noteverything I planted was blooming!)those bridesmaid dresses that even I said "you can wear it again!"favors (wilflower seeds wrapped in fabric with a ribbon)the cheap champagne (i've become a connoisseur now, but then, YUCK!)registering. The best gifts came from folks who ignored our registry.the cake feeding ritualthe bouquet throwing ritual (my mother talked me into it)A limo to and from the church and to and from the reception (we drove w/friends and that was fun, but a limo would have been nice. A horse andcarriage to the church would have been GREAT)

bridal hair : more flowers (i did them myself and saved a lot of money, but i wishedthat there were flowers everywhere)warm weather. It was cold in may that year, but there was nothing I coulddo about THAT.more pictures of us in the cow pasture between the church and reception.more speeches at the wedding. There were no good toasts! Patrick and Ishould have toasted our guests, and thanked them for coming.more pampering, less scrimping. I would have liked to have my makeup done In another post Jenna you castigated the photography profession because a bride was paying $750 for 50 photos from her photographer and you stated that was more than you were paying. Maybe the fault of the photos was not the fault of the makeup but rather you got photos equal to what you paid for. It's a thought. also and if you had paid appropriately, you probably would have one. I had a great wedding. Just would have liked a few more extravagent And just maybe better photos that you will remember long after you have forgotten the above. A few hours of limo service may very well have cost more than your photography.I just wished that this aspect of your wonderful day had taken a higher priority and that the results provided the memories that will last a lifetime and that you could wish the same for other brides.
