My wife likes rubies but she's never really been concerned with whetherthey were lab grown or mined (apparently, she already knew there was adifference) --- she just likes the coloring. So, I'm going to buy the set as a gift for her and hope that one day Ihave enough money to buy her some mined gems.I hope no one minded my intrusion as I may have some more questions inthe future.I would be curious to find out how much money Peter wasted on what hehimself called "crap". It's a funny thing I'm noticing in the retailindustry: many large chains and so called "leaders of the industry" havebeen selling created gems - and not Chatham either- tennis bracelets setwith brownies- even bridal jewelry which 10 years ago was rejected by theindustry. What I'm noticing is these co's look for catchy features andbuild the product to a price point. Two years later they customers aren'thappy because the jewelry is falling apart-but who cares- they got the moneynow. I have a theory about this way of doing business- it's what I call"Maybe they won't say anything" philosophy. (Mediocrity) You give thecustomer some junk stuff, take their money and hope the sale sticks. Ifthere's a quality issue maybe it's get lost in the red tape (4-6 weeks toreplace a 2 pointer) maybe it won't. But as long as it's shiny people don'tcare. They got a warranty.. for $19.95...additional that is.
