bridal shops : Well, I know that service is the number one thing I looked for. Was thesaleslady really interested in helping me find what *I* want? I alsoprefer local shops over chains (that is just me). I think selection isanother thing that is important. The shop must be neat and organized. I think every woman should be treated like they are someone special. Nice large dressing rooms with big mirrors also help. The overallexperience of shopping for a wedding gown should feel relaxing. Besides, if it is the 10th shop they have been to, they are likely tofeel overwhealmed or frustrated already. The shop I bought my gown atwas wonderful. My saleslady knew who I was every time I walked in thedoor. She remembered what dress I ordered and everything!! They werevery accomodating and realy seemed to care. My saleslady ordered mydress in a different size after she had a dream that it didn't fit (Iwas borderline on the size chart). Now, that tells you something abouthow much they care. Unfortunately, they have closed because the ownerwanted more time to spend with her children, and she didn't feel shecould find someone who would run the shop the same as she had. It wasthe best local shop in town, now there are pretty much just chainplaces. :( Hope this helps.
bridal shops : I agree that it is very nice to have a salesperson take an interest in yourneeds, especially in a bridal shop, when you're getting ready for this onebig event where so much emphasis is placed upon yourself.I was veil shopping last weekend, and went into once place, told the girlthat I was looking for an ivory elbow-length veil, preferably with somelight beading, and she told me to "go to the hobby shop", that they're "easyto make." She then suggested I just get some Elmer's Glue and glue on thepearls if I want them, because whenever she irons veils for people, beadsand pearls "always come off" and she just "glues them back on, the peoplenever even notice." (?!?!?!)It probably goes without saying that this is one place I will not bespending my money.Hey, at least she was honest!!!! She could have told you veils are VERY hard to make and you need to spend at least a zillion dollars to get agood one and they are put together with special jewelers' pearl cement....Are you sure the manufacturers don't just stick the beading on withElmer's Glue and that's why they fall off int he first place?
bridal shops : I would actually trust this salesgirl because she was so upfront with you. Actually, that was the reaction I sort of had, too. Okay,telling the truth about how easy it is to make a veil probably isn'ttoo good for business, but if I hadn't known that, I would've beenglad to find it out rather than paying lots of bucks for a pre-madeveil. P.S. A little bit off-topic... I used a mini hot glue gun to putsilk flowers on my headpiece for the veil. It's probably strongerthan Elmer's glue, and easy to use. The mini ones weren't tooexpensive, maybe $2 at a craft store and less than $1 for a bag ofglue sticks. I'm sure mine will come in handy for other things, too.Personally, I do not like blushers at all. But it is more of apreference than a "blusher's are stupid and nobody should wearthem" thing. I wouldn't wear one. I wouldn't be offended to seea thirty-something (er, sorry, forgot to cough) bride wearingone though. If you like them, wear one. I'm not the best personto give you guidance here, as I'm not all that fond of veils tobegin with, and don't plan on wearing one.

bridal shops : Hi, I was just wondering what the rest of you out there think... So far I havebeen to about 5 different bridal shops and every one of them has given meshoddy service. Is this just my bad luck? I think that every woman has one or two aspects of their wedding that isreally important to them to be the way they want. For example, some wantspecial flowers, some want special food, some want a special cake. Wellfor me, it happens to be the dress. I want to look absolutely great on mywedding day. I know I will have to live with what I look like foreverafterward because it will be captured on film.So far, all the bridal shops I have been to have treated me as if I was 12years old! (I'm 29). One salesperson had the nerve to insult my figure.(How very pleasant THAT experience was.) The only thing I could think ofwas "Doesn't she want my business? What a thing to say?" Granted, I amnot a petite person (I'm a size 14 and stand 5'11" tall with unusuallylong legs, 37" inseam), but regardless if I was a woman who was larger orsmaller, is that the way someone should be treated?All the other bridal shops just try to push their wares on me. In otherwords, whether the dress has the style I am looking for or not, they slapit on me and tell me how wonderful it looks on me. I told one salesperson,"This is not the style I am really looking for. It looks too much like afairy-tale princess, I am looking for a more sophisticated look." Unfortunately, during small-talk I told her that I was an electricalengineer and somehow that equated to the opinion that I was not feminine. "It's okay to be frilly," she said. "I've had female athletes and evenpolicewomen ask for the most frilly, lacy gown in the shop. It's okay todo that for your wedding day." "No, you don't understand," I said. "That's my own PERSONAL style." (People often describe me as statuesque). She didn't understand.Oh well, I guess I just wanted to vent. It's so depressing looking for adress - I thought it would be a lot more fun. I guess I'll have to keeplooking until I find what I want. I've put it off the last few weekends. Perhaps I'll have to have one made.
