bridal shower favors : --Barbara, June 19 1999 (who had never heard of favours for showers beforereading these newsgroups!)-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+B.E.Warner Dal Law, Class of '99small assortment of teateacup & saucercandy covered spoons for stirring teacookies or tea biscuits in little tinshoney & dripperherb bath "tea"teacups with votive candles insidegreat theme, i think you have lots of options. check out kitchen or importstores like crate & barrel, william-sonoma, or pier one.Looks like my original post has disappeared. ANyway, my suggestion wassomething I received from Crabtree & Evelyn recently:It's a cardboard cutout of a tea cup and saucer, with a C&E teacookie/biscuit balanced on the edge of the saucer...and inside the foldsof the cardboard (sitting inside the cup, with the label showing) is anEnglish breakfast tea bag. The back of the celophane wrapped 'packet"reads:"Crabtree & Evelyn AFTERNOON TEA and ENGLISH BREAKFAST TEA are madewith the highest quality leaves selected from t he world's largest leadingtea plantations.Shown with a traditional blue and white collection made exclusively fro usby Mason's Ironstoke of Stoke-on-Trent."Depending on the size and cost of favours you're looking for (there areinexpensive but not exactly as substantial as giving a real cup andsaucer!), these might be perfect for your tea themed shower! (As soon as Isaw it, I thought, "How perfect for a afternoon wedding favour, or ashower!" Then I saw the original post!
bridal shower favors : I'm not sure if these are promotional items or for sale; I got it from mysister who works at C&E in one of their Greater Toronto area stores...(Not sure where the original poster is from, but C&E has stores acrossCanada, the US and the UK.)Otherwise, I'd suggest tea cups and saucers- you might be able to findreally nice, unique ones at a rummage sale, garage sale or flea market. It would allow for each guest to have a 'unique' favour... Popping aflavoured teabag into the cup would make for a nice finishing touch!--Barbara, June 19 1999-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+B.E.Warner Dal Law, Class of '99What a coincidence - I just co-hosted a bridal tea this weekend. We onlyhad about a dozen women there and we chose to give out white ceramicteapots. They held about 2 good sized cups and cost $6.99 each atLechter's. We had to go to two malls though because no store had enoughin stock.I then bought an assortment of teas and placed four inside each pot andtied a satin ribbon (in the wedding color) around the handle.I have to say, the whole idea of a tea is great. Not as expensive as afull meal and no worry about timing courses, having enough placesettingsand table room, etc. bridal shower favors : To make it a little different, we chose to serve several different kindsof tea. Each in their own pot and each pot had a little history. One wasmy paternal great aunt's, another was my maternal grandmother's, and soon. With a variety of pots it only made sense to have an assortment ofcups/saucers and dessert plates - which helped out too!One final note: I thought that my older relatives would stick with atraditional type tea (we are talking regular Lipton drinkers here) so Ihad more Earl Grey and Orange Pekoe but they all flipped for the Jasmine. Go figure. I think it helped that they new that if they hated it theycould just switch to something else.I am hosting a shower in a couple of weeks. Is not the tea theme although it is a GREAT idea. The shower i am hosting will also be a Jack and Jill party. The bride and groom are moving into a new apt togheter the weekend after the shower, and need everything for there kitchen and bathroom. They are also having a very small 14th century period wedding, where they will be getting little to no gifts. The shower is going to be fairly modern and elegant, but very inexpensive. The favors are going to be little cardboard boxes/ stamped /w the date and bride and grooms first names approx $0.07 each ( i already have the stamps), with lindt truffles inside $18.31 for 96 of them including 8 % sales tax/ i have also been collecting pottery looking mugs, sugar bowls, creamers and cheap teapots at esate & garage sales have not spent over $1.00 on any of them. i will be putting 1/2 dozen roses in each of these, my florist will is charging me 6 dollars a dozen there will be approx 20 guests (there prices run normally 8-9 dollars a dozen)they also double as ecorations during the party$0.76 (chocolates 4 @ just over 19 cents each) (the other 16 will go to $0.07 (boxes) the bride&groom)$3.00 (1/2 doz roses)$0.50- $1.00 (the assorted vessels)$4.33- $4.83 TOTALS bridal shower favors : The food containing 2 chicken dishes, 3 vegatarian dishes, assorted deserts, salads, hor dorves,(will be a buffet) is running us about 5 dollars per headapprox $200.00 for approx 20 guestsI may even go for the extra dozen and also give them to the bride & groomsplit between the best man ( my so ) and myselfgood lucktraciA couple of years ago I went to an outdoor wedding shower where the favors weregardenia plants. The hostess had bought a flat of the plants from a gardencenter. Often, flats (connected packs of plastic holders, like pudding cup sixpacks, and several six packs to a flat) of plants that have outgrown their cupsand need to be repotted are thrown out, because it's not worth it to the gardencenter to repot them. I know this, because my older sister used to work at agarden center and we got a wonderful variety of cheap or free plants in ourgarden that way.Anyway, an idea for you is to go to a garden center and ask about overgrownflowering plants for bridal shower favors (they'll probably be more likely tohelp you if they know it's for a shower, rather than you just trying to fillyour garden for cheap, and it's good public relations too). A further stepwould be to find some cute little flower pots, get some potting soil, and giveyour guests some freshly potted flowers. Remember a flower pot has to haveproper drainage... don't just use teacups. Ask the garden center for tips onrepotting the plants, if you haven't done it before. bridal shower favors : For my bridal shower, the hostess made potpourri bags. She boughtblue fabric and white ribbon 1/4" wide (blue & white were my weddingcolors), cut the fabric into squares using pinking shears for a "ruffled"edge, placed a small amount of potpourri in the middle of each squareand tied up the "bag" with the white ribbon. She also wrote "Gail'sBridal Shower" and the date on each ribbon (probably before tying). They were easy and inexpensive to make, but they looked very pretty. She had them sitting in large basket as a table centerpiece (also adorned with blue & white ribbon). -----GailAll comments are mine mine mine!! However, they may be borrowed free-of-charge at your own risk for up to 2 weeks, $0.25/day late fee.Kim...Theres a great magazine published 4x per year called Bridal Crafts. They always have lots of ideas for favors.Bridal Crafts701 Lee StreetSuite 1000Des Plaines IL 60016-4570I just got married last June, and I must say...Bridal Showersare just the greatest!!I was so tired and stressed out over wedding details, and it was sonice to have somebody surprise me and "shower me" me gifts and affection.Showers started out to be a gift giving party for the bride, for thosewho were unable to come to the wedding. Now it is for everyone...especiallythose who are invited to the wedding! The maid of honour or a friendor other family member (not the mothers though, generally) are responsiblefor throwing a bridal shower - usually 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding.
