diamond engagement ring : i thought i would just discuss further, you see a rolex is a qualtifiablecataloguable thing, they are all standard and can be looked up, a diamondring on the other hand is generally unique- type of item, a car, pc, rolexetc have easy to define book values, and then dpending on production, demandand other factors,a price can be determined, a ring on the other hand is amuch more difficult thing to tag a rate on. i think u would tend to agree,especially that their appraisal value depends on the opinion of a person. Ifi were an appraiser and i appraised a ring at 4 000 and the guy told me hewould throw 200-300 bucks my way to make the 4 a 5, i am pretty sure I woulddo it just as any appraiser probably would. most normal humans are subjectto these normal everyday temptations, especially when it's really no skinoff their backs.i would love to hear your opinion and advice. i am a firm believer that theinvoice price (if purchased at a reputable) establishment is a good guide touse.i am pretty sure that that is what insurance companies use, orrr they willsend u to their company appraiser.regards,immijLike a car...you would get it checked out first. Go to Birks to get a TRUEvalue and not an appraised value. Birks has absolutely nothing to gain bytelling you that the diamond is worth more or less. But why would you spend$12 000.00 on a ring? I bet a woman would freak out if a man went a bought aPorche. But it's okay for a woman to get a $12 000.00 ring because it looksnice on her finger and she can wear it to the swimming pool or when she goesto work out. And of course, there is no correlation between the cost of the diamond, and how much a couple loves each other, or how good the marriage will be. And as a luxury good, diamonds really suck. Consider other luxury goods: fur coats, luxury cars, fancy TVs, etc. Well, you need clothing, so as long you need a coat to keep warm during the cold winters, whynot buy an expensive fur coat. As long as you want to spend time watching the tube, why not on a large 52-inch Sony. As long as you need to drive from one place to another, why not in an S-series Mercedes. But diamond in your ring just sits there. Its only purpose is to be esthetically pleasing. But as you know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

You are buying the diamond for your happiness, not what anyone else thinks.* Bottom line: don't buy a diamond to impress others; buy it to satisfy* yourself/your fiancee.* So, look for a diamond only when you really want it and realize that* you are basically splurging on yourself/your fiancee.
