engagement invitation : How would you word an engagement party invitation when you didn't wantpeople to bring gifts (but knowing one or two relatives probably would)? Also, if my fiance Michael and I, decide not to have a party and just sentannouncements with an engagement photo, what is the proper way to do that?Or is it proper at all? We are now living in Boston, but most of ourfamily anf friends are in PA/NJ. Any sugestions? We had thought to maybehave a barb-b-q this summer to celebrate our Novemeber '95 engagement. (Weare getting married spring 98.)When my Mom wrote out the invitations, which were on really pretty flowery cards, she added a line to the bottom that said:Some people brought them anyway, but I think it's a nice way to phrase it. (We stole this from Jordan's parents' anniversary party invite.)Sheila (and Jordan)8/17/96-- The opinions expressed in this communication are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer. My fiancee is in Manchaug, MA and I am in Tucson, AZ. Our friends liveall over the world. We sent engagement announcements to all our closefriends and relatives with a photo and also enclosed personal letters. Idon't know how proper it was but everyone loved it. The especially likedthe photos. Most of these people are too far away to make it to thewedding or an engagement party and we felt it was the best way to breakthe news to everyone.
engagement invitation : My daughter's FMIL is giving them an engagement party soon andI have a question about gifts. Are they appropriate? What typeof gifts? Thanks-- @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ | @ | @ | @ | @ | @ | @ | @ | @ \|/ \|/ \|/\|/ \|/\|/ \|/ \|/ \|/\|/ \|/\|/ \|/\|/ \|/\|/\|/What is the proper etiquette for throwing an engagement party? Who shouldthrow the party? My fiance's parents threw our engagement party on the West Coast, and myparents held one on the East coast. Some of our close friends also threw us aninformal celebration at a local pub. I'm not even sure if there is a ruleregarding who hosts it... I've had friends who've planned their own, and Iactually hosted one for my sister and her fiance.Properly, an engagement party is given by the bride's parents. It is notreally an "engagement party" because the announcement is kept secret untilsometime later in the evening. Engaged couples never host their ownengagement party. In the absence of bride's parents (owing to death orother personal tragedy), another close family member or life-long familyfriend has the honors of hosting the event.Gifts are not given nor expected at an engagement party. However, it isnot uncommon or improper for close family members to bestow gifts upon thecouple, usually heirlooms to be passed on down the family line or other"milestone" type gifts. engagement invitation : I am going to my first engagements party other than mine (as stated insubject). This couple seems to be doing things quite differently thanme. I was wondering if I could get your opinions.1. I received an official mailed invitation to the party. Who has donethis? We simply called the people we wanted there.2. This party seems huge. We only had family and Bridesmaids-to-be andBest Man-to-be. That's it. If they are inviting us (friends but notthat close), I can't start imagining who is going to be a the wedding.Who did you invite to your engagements party, if you had one.3. They actually set a date for the wedding before the engagementparty. I didn't do this. Was this the case for you?4. They registered before the engagements party. Is that common?Practical, but we hadn't set a date for the wedding yet, so we didn'tbother registering.5. They registered for so many things, I am having problems imaginingthe size of kitchen or house they would need for all this. I know fora fact that he doesn't drink (at all) and they have a total of 60crystal glasses on the registry (12 of red wine, white wine, champagne, whisky and I can't remember the last). Is this the norm? Iguess because they are only getting married in 2.5 years, if everyonegoes to their registry for birthdays and Christmas until the wedding, they might get everything... engagement invitation : 7. They set a date 2.5 years away. I set mine 10 months before. Icurious to know the average.About the registry, I found the system at the Bay not very good. Hasanyone else have any experience with them? They had items that werevague. We couldn't figure out exactly what they wanted. They asked forkitchen gadgets but we didn't know what style the wanted. Isn't thatone of the purposes of a registry?Anyways, I'm just curious. This is so different from what our parentsdid for us, I was just wondering if this is the "traditional" or"proper" way of doing things. On 12 Dec 1998 23:30:09 wrote:*Hi everyone,**I am going to my first engagements party other than mine (as stated in*subject).
