Of the 3 Commanding Officers that i have served beneath,my past 2 have allowed to wear my engagement ring. However the newlyappointed C.O has declined my request to wear my ring in anyapplications within the corps. I feel this is unfair. Is there anywayin which i can get permission from a higher authority to wear my ring,as the ACP 1919 and the Drill manual both state that this is allowedwithin the corps and is not at the C.O's descretion. (He wears anengagement ring himself along with all the other officers with weddingrings).Irrelevant - whether or not it is gaudy or ostentatious is a matter ofpersonal opinion, which does not come into question here. The rule booksays he is allowed to wear it, and that right should not be taken away. Anengagement ring to me would mean a lot to me and I would want to wear it allthe time.Even if it was gaudy or ostentatious - what if all he could afford was acheap one that you would class as gaudy or ostentatious - are you simplygoing to stop him on those grounds? His state of welfare may not be able toafford a 'classy' ring that you approve of. The fact that he is allowed towear it stands, and whether or not others approve of how it looks isirrelevant as long as it is an engagement ring.
