wedding dress : From: ()Subject: Wedding Dress For Sale Newsgroups: , Date: 1995-03-16 13:41:05 PST My Wife To Be Is Selling Her Wedding Dress:It is a size 16 (but can be easily altered +/- 4 sizes!).Made of Candle Light Satin with a beaded bodice & train.Long sleeved and gorgeous! We're simply selling it because we bought it and now have foundsomething we like better. We live in the Atlanta area, but we wouldn'tmind sending pictures off to serious buyers. An aspiring computer science major at work at Ernst & Young LLP Attending School at the Georgia Institute of TechnologyI would like to sell my wedding dress. It is a size 6 Bianca design gown; eggshell white taffeta, portraitcollar, italian lace boddice, full with a skirt with pearl beads at thehem of the dress. I paid $1200 for it. It is in marvelous condition and would take thebest offer that comes around.I just got married June 22nd in Hollywood, California and am interested in selling my wedding dress. Being a grad student, I can't justify the costs of paying for storing it and who ever knows if a daughter would one day want to wear it anyway (which is, I suppose, the point of saving it). Being in training as a professional historian I have an appreciation for anything that comes with a history. I hope someone else out there does too. My husband and I were married after being together for 10 years in what was, by all account, a "magical" ceremony. We are very very happily married. So, if a used wedding dress can bring a bride "good Karma", this one certainly will.
wedding dress : The dress is made by Venus. It's a size 10, in white-white (not off-white). It has a halter top in white satin with opalescent sequins and pearl beads sewn on in a flowering vine pattern. (The beading is not gawdy, as I think some is) The skirt is several layers of white tulle with a few opalescent sequins strewn throughout. I wore the dress with a full petticoat (which I'm also selling), to avoid taking in at the hem and because making the skirt fuller made my waist--in the tight-fitting bodice-- look even smaller. I'm 5' 8 1/2" and 140 lbs.and big boned--a "big woman" according to my husband who is only 1/2" taller--and this dress made me look sort of dainty (which is the look I wanted to achieve). I got a lot of compliments on the dress at my wedding. All my girlfriends, none of whom had seen it before the wedding, agreed that it was beautiful--much more beautiful than my description made it sound. Several male friends also commented--saying it look "retro" and yet "modern" at the same time. It's very sophisticated looking. Because of its bare shoulder and bare backstyle--it is a summery dress--Perfect, I thought, for an outdoor summer wedding in the evening. wedding dress : I can send pictures of the dress to anyone interested. It is probably also possible to find it in any number of bridal salons to see it in person and to try it on.I wore flat ballet-type slippers with it . On my head I wore a beaded headband, white, to which I attached a short veil with velcro. I'm selling the dress, the full petticoat, the shoes, the headband and the veil for $550.00. Good for allseasons, I worn it in the middle of summer and was comfortable. It has an openback with strings of beads flowing down it. This is the dress of your dreamsIt is a size 10. Selling it for $350.00 including the veil. If you want toknow more about it or would like a picture mail me here and I would be happyto send you one. wedding dress : I am thinking of making my own dress (as I am rather small and want to getsomething that fits well). I was wondering if any of the other brides orbrides-to-be have either done or considered this. Apart from testing outthe pattern on a cheaper material first, does anyone have any advice orsuggestions? I have sown formal gowns before and still have plenty of time(early next year)Thanks in advance,KarinaI know that I will be making mine. I have the opposite problem from yours --I'm tall, work out, and am correspondingly built. So, I need a larger dress. My gown will be rather atypical -- I'm planning something in gold brocade with (possibly) deep purple accents and a gold-and-purple lace veil/mantilla,so I'd probably have to make it anyway in order to get what I want. Also, it'llbe less expensive to do it myself than to have someone else do it, and arrangingfittings and alterations will be a non-issue :). And, I like to make myclothes anyway, so wearing something I made at my wedding would be very nice.(I'll probably be sewing the groom's outfit too -- he wants a nice kimono andobi, and this isn't an easy item to find in central PA.) wedding dress : Definitely, do a test run of the dress in cheaper material first, with theundergarments and other things that you'll be wearing with the dress. If you'vesewn formal stuff before, then you probably have a good idea of what's involved. If there are things that you want to do that you've never done before, though(such as beading or working with lace, maybe), then you can look at books onspecialty sewing -- the Singer books come to my mind immediately, but there areothers that are also helpful. And, allow yourself plenty of time to do all this-- from what we've seen on this group, there are plenty of other things to worryabout, and an unfinished dress won't help your sanity! You can also look for advice on alt.sewing and rec.crafts.textiles.sewing --this topic seems to come up occasionally there, too.-- Sara (and Jason, at some point in the next few years or so -- yep, we're pretty vague about this too.)I'm having my wedding dress made partly because of my size - I'm 5'3"but have a 38 inch rib cage so it's hard to find things that fit - andalso because it's just less expesive.
