wedding favours : Her husband thought favors were stupid so he got a lump of coal at hisplate! He said that being Scottish he didn't understand the importanceof a favor. My point is, you can get a few things that mean a lot to you and putthem together somehow. Be creative! I personally vote for raisin andbiscuit Yorkie bars.LZ"From Denmark!" repeated a cleric from Rome..."So you are American?"/The [Greek] barber asked if I was an Englishman and when I said I wasDanish he clasped me to his bosom and said, "Bravo Americano!" -- HC Andersen, A Poet's BazaarI helped make the favours for mt nearly sister-in-law two years ago and this is how far my experience goes. The favours are give to the ladies *only*. They are little parcels of sugared almonds - 5 (five) sugared almonds each, no more no less, as each of the five symbolizes something along the lines of: happiness, good fortune etc, unfortunately I don't recall the exact details. To make them yourself is relatively easy. We tied them with bows matching the bridesmaids dresses and put a little fabric flower in it - the 'standard approach' as it seems.
wedding favours : Now, I have seen some more elaborate ones: You can ret readymade circles of netting which are edged in some special way, gold for example (of course you can buy complete readymade favours too!), or overlay two contrasting layers of netting. Include some silvered / gold almonds.Surely a good idea is to match the favours to the oberall theme?Hope this helps - though it appears to be a conservative view. There are probably some books on weddings where you could look too.BTW - I still have mine from that particular wedding, it's a special memento to me.________________________________________ ____________________Anja Wolle, Southampton, UK From: ()Subject: Re: Wedding Favours Newsgroups: Date: 1996/01/15 I don't know if these are what you have in mind but here goes:Chocolate and white chocolate suckers tied with a ribbon that has bothbride and groom's name on it and wedding date. Sucker molds come inall different styles to suit nearly any theme wedding. The latest craze seems to be a gold spoon (plastic or stainless) dippedin flavored chocolate with the same ribbon as above on it. Spoonusually has a small poem on it and spoon is used to flavor coffee. wedding favours : Another simple favor was a spoon with a Hershey Hug and Kiss wrapped intulle and a small poem about "spoonfuls of hugs and kisses from me andthe Mrs." or something of that nature.Another neat "craze" is to create your own candy bars. Although thereare companies that will do this, it is fairly easy to design one on thecomputer, makes copies, buy Hershey bars, remove the Hershey wrapperand put the new one on. Voila! Cheap, but personalized edible weddingfavors.+-------------------------------+------- ------------------------------++-------- -----------------------+---------------- ---------------------+This is a little off subject but it might come in handy in the future. When I had my kids about 10 years ago, we didn't want to give out cigars. There was this company somewhere here in Minnesota that made a covering for a Hershey bar. If it was a girl, the her was cut out and if it was a boy, the He was cut off. The wrapper was brown just like a Hershey bar and you taped it over the original wrapper. It said "It's a He(She). They went over really big. No one had ever seen them before. This company also sold the Hershey bars cheaper than I could ever find them. If anyone want their address, let me know and I'll try to dig it up. wedding favours : Instead of netting, I bought circles of white lace, white and burgandy ribbon roses and white leaf shapes. I put in about 4 almonds and tied the bundle up with burgandy ribbon. Two flowers and a leaf stuck out of the top. They were poofy, people ate them in perfusion....and I managed to save around 10...which I emptied after the wedding and refilled with floral poporri made from my wedding bouqet. I think that they worked out great. I think that if you don't want to use the almonds, any candy coated edible would do. Take your pick. How about chocolate coated expresso beans, hard candy in funky shapes, ect. As for the package, you don't have to do netting or even the lace like I did. How about a small box tied with ribbon or a cone made of fabric? Anything goes.> > > marzipan fruits. No it's not cheap. But buy some marzipan, colorit (its a pain mixing it with your hands or a wooden spoon to workthe color in), and shape into fruits. Bananas, grapes, apples, pumpkins (okay not a fruit). Use cloves for stems or chives, or...you can then, once the fruit is formed, paint it to beef it upwith food colored water. wedding favours : I would love to read whether or not you are giving your invited guestswedding favours. What kind of wedding favour are you purchasing and howmuch would you reasonably spend on a favour? When you reply to this post, please remember to state which currency youare using to purchase your favours. From the posts I've read so far, itcan get a bit confusing to know where everyone is located. Why am I asking these questions? First off, shopping for weddingfavours can be quite a challenge for brides & grooms and this post mighthelp someone here. Second, I need fresh ideas of what types of weddingfavours are popular now, so I can add them to my online giftwareshopping service :)-- Marika LaneCanadian Bridal Registry & Giftware Shopping(exclusive giftware by Waterford, Wedgewood, and more)My fiance and I have decided to give our guests mini bottles of sparklingwine (200ml) as wedding favours. We haven't decided what brand, but I'mleaning towards Freixnet. They come in really nice black frosted glassbottles. I've heard that some couples write their message on the bottle withgold marker, but I'm thinking of tying a pretty gold ribbon araound the neckand attaching a small tag. The cost here is $2.60/bottle Canadian $.
