wedding florist : We are using a florist who is a general florist rather than a "weddingflorist." Although he has done plenty of weddings, the bulk of hisbusiness is bouquet delivery (for birthdays, Mother's Day, etc.) and, believe it or not, funerals. His prices were MUCH cheaper than any of theother people we considered, his photos evidenced perfectly lovely work, and he has a helium tank and can do balloons, which we wanted and manywedding florists don't do.Also, find out what flowers are readily available in season and at lowestcost to the florist in your area, so you can make an informed decisionabout whether you're willing to pay for a certain kind of flower.I do know people who bought their flowers wholesale and had an experiencedfriend arrange them, or who did the flowers themselves. If you go thisroute, just make sure you're realistic about how much time and effort it'sgoing to take and whether it's worth the monetary savings. You can also reduce the flower cost by limiting the amount of flowers youbuy. Use the bridesmaids' bouquets as centerpieces and the altar piecesto decorate the dance floor, instead of buying separate arrangements foreach purpose. Use candles or something else other than flowers for tablecenterpieces. Have the men wear pocket squares instead of boutonnierresand have the women carry a single long-stem rose tied with a ribbon ratherthan a big fancy bouquet.
wedding florist : I can't help you with most of your questions but I am getting marriedin Oklahoma City in less than two months. I don't know how much a kegof beer SHOULD cost, but I know that the hotels around here (as mostanywhere) have ridiculously high catering prices. My fiance and Ilooked into a hotel reception, but as soon as we realized that a gallonof tea would cost over $12, we said forget it!Sorry I can't help you with anything else, but if your friend has anyother Oklahoma City questions, she can write me at:I've heard from several people that you can get reasonably priced flowersfrom a large chain supermarket that has a florist. (For example SuperStop&Shop in my area) Many of them offer the same services as a flowershop would at a lower cost.My fiance and I were lucky enough to bump into the florist who arrangesthe flowers for the church we are getting married in. She is a parishionerof the church and offered her services at a great price. You might also try and find out if there is another wedding the sameweekend as yours and try to split the cost with the other bride for theceremony flowers. wedding florist : Over here it's quite normal to check whether another couples marries in the same church on the same day and to use the same flowers and share the costs. Of course, this is only possible if you agree on the kind of flowers to pick and if you choose flowers that stay beautiful for a longer period. In article Danielle.L.Benware@dartmouth.edu (Danielle L. Benware) writes:Well, *I* wouldn't pay that kind of money for a keg of beer. Domesticslike Bud usually run around $40-60 in the grocery store. Microbrewsand imports run about $100-150, max. [Example Bass Ale approx. $90/keg]But then again, she's going to be paying huge markups on everything throughthe hotel. HTH.**1.) Does $275 for a keg of "good" beer sound like a crazy price? (the**hotel is catering the meal and she has to use the hotel's stuff -- not**buy it on her own...)A keg of Guinness, Bass, local microbrew Pale Ale (read: expensive beers)around here costs $105 at the beer outlet/distributor.We priced our reception at the local Hyatt Regency and they wanted tocharge $216 for same said amount of the same beer. wedding florist : If you don't mind paying that much of a markup for "good" beer, then it'snot crazy. I found hotels to be ridiculous on mediocre quality food andoutrageously expensive on their alcohol prices. The hotel we looked atalso charged $25/hour for bartenders, so it's not like that 100+% markupwent for labor costs or anything.Personally, if they're charging that much for beer, I'd look for anothersite...but that's me...and that's considering the beer/wine snobs my crowdis comprised of. I just couldn't justify paying that much...and the winethey wanted to serve was swill for $20/bottle. If I want to serve$20/bottle wine at my wedding, it damn well better be $20/ bottle wine!-- Just when I thought I was winning the rat race...along came faster rats.In article A. Hannah wrote:We're in the same situation - BUT, having worked at a liquor store for8 years, I can tell you that a keg of beer (coors lite, heinekin, etc.)is - hold on.....$54.00 - I'm not kidding. So, since I know this, I ameven MORE irritated at the mark up.But, what can you expect? God forbid they only use a slight mark-upversus extorion. wedding florist : I got married 3 months ago. We used Mayflowers for our florist,(781-2739) and were pleased with her results. We looked at about 3different places, and her prices and ideas were good. Our total billwas around $900, with 8 attendants and 20 tables. (To give you anapproximation.)I could not recommend our photographer. Oddly, 1/4th of his posedpictures were blurry, judging from the proofs. I can understand quick, candid photos being blurry, but not posed shots .. I suppose the finalpictures may be better. His packages started at $600, going to $1100. -- Expect, however, to buy a boat load of loose pictures. We just puttogether our list, and it was around $500 additional bucks.I also could not recommend our baker, Hartters! DO NOT get your cakefrom them. It took 2 visits, and 4 phone calls to get the cake ordered,AND THEN 2 weeks before the wedding, they called and asked "Do you guysneed a cake?". We fixed the problem and paid for the cake, only to havethe WRONG CAKE delivered at our wedding!! Unbelievable!
