wedding flowers : Aside from bouquets, there are lots of other things to be taken into consideration. Let us consider the church floral decoration. Your first step should be to consult the minister or priest. Most church authorities will welcome floral decoration but they often like to have some say in the matter. If you are getting married during a religous festival, arrangements may have already been made to decorate the church. There may of course be a wedding before or after your own, so try and talk to the other parties to look into the possibility of sharing the cost. A pedistal of flowers on either side of the alter will always add to the splendour of the day. Small posies or even single blooms on the aisle end of the pews will also look wonderful. Another nice touch is to decorate the church entrance, even if only a couple of single blooms over the door. The same care must be taken when choosing silk or artificial flowers, the only difference being that you will get to see the arrangements before the morning of the wedding. This will allow you to make changes if you wish.

wedding flowers : There are many suppliers waiting to serve you, so do not be pressurised into placing your order until you are very sure of the company you choose. Most suppliers are very reputable but it is not worth taking chances.-------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- --We sincerely hope that this information might help some of you! It was compiled by WedNet along with the help of professional florists.------------------------------- --------------------------------------Ro bert Lam Five Star Software ...producers of "My Wedding Companion" wedding planning software-------------------------------- -----------------------------------Sorry, but I take issue with much that is written here. Having been a florist for six years--and one who only did weddings--I would like to offer another point of view. 1. I recommend using only fresh flowers. They don't have to be expensive. Even a daisy can look formal if "styled" formally. Money is also a factor. Good silks can cost 3 times what fresh flowers do--and dried flowers are like buying gold. Besides, nothing beats the beauty of fresh flowers--and your wedding day is the one time in your life you should carry them. 2. Fresh flowers, handled properly, will last much longer than just the wedding day. 3. Choose a florist who *regualarly does weddings*. This is a must. 4. Fresh flowers are no longer seasonal. Most are available all year around and come from Columbia and Holland. 5. There is a great debate among florists: "Should I tape and wire--or should I use oasis?" WHen flowers are wired, they are then placed in a cooler. They have no water source. They may wilt by the next day, or not make it through the wedding day. I skilled florist who knows how to use an oasis will do so. They provide a water source and keep the flowers fresh. We used oasis all the time, and our flowers never ended up on the floor.6. Visit florists who have only been recommended to you. Visit them on the day they're preparing for a wedding and observe their work. Make sure everything is written in your contract. Leave nothing to chance.

wedding flowers : All the best, Deb McCoy, Author, "For the Bride" For more info, please visit, Like Deb, I also found this article misleading and disagree with it inconcept and in substance. I also have done flowers for over six years. And I also do ONLY wedding florals. Dried flowers are very fragile, and IMHO, not suitable for any "onperson" flowers, (bouquets, corsages, etc.) One enthusiastic hug fromAunt Nellie and you have potpourri instead of a bouquet. You can, however, get some very nice silks in the appearance of dried. This sideof the silk market isn't quite as lifelike as the imitation of fresh is,but they're learning and improving all of the time. And the silk will becheaper than dried. I agree that nothing BEATS the beauty of fresh flowers, but silks canabsolutely be as beautiful if you have found a florist who knows where toget them. I'd just add that your wedding is the one time in your lifethat you'll spend such an amount on flowers and you should be able to keepthem forever rather than tossing them out or spending a fortune (more thanthe cost of the fresh flowers themselves!) to preserve a few petals.

wedding flowers : I am happy to do fresh flowers for weddings, but I do recommend silksinstead in many instances. Most silks are as cheap, if not cheaper thanfresh flowers, expecially when dealing with the expensive flowers commonto weddings (gardenias, orchids, lilies, stephanotis, lily of the Valley,etc.). Yes, a silk daisy can cost 3 times the price of a fresh one. Ifyou're going with cheaper, commonly termed "filler" flowers, you'reabsolutely better off with fresh (as long as you don't care that they lastafter the wedding. Many people who use "filler" flowers, however, aren'tdoing so because they love carnations and daisies, they're doing it tosave money. A good silk florist can do a nice bouquet of "expensive"silks (orchids, et al) for the cost of a "filler" flower fresh bouquet. And yes, this does mean that it would have to be a silk floristexperienced and knowledgeable of their marketplace. This doesn't meanjust knowing where the wholesale "flower market" in the metropolitan areais located. It also means knowing the market place overall and dealingwith manufacturers instead of wholesale distributors who are ONLY

wedding flowers : Here's another point of view: Several people have mentioned that noteveryone notices the flowers, but some people notice them a lot. I do.Personally, I dislike silk flowers for the simple reason that they arefakes--they are supposed to look like fresh flowers (the "best" ones comereally close), but they aren't. I don't dislike artificial flowers thatare not meant to trick you into thinking they're the real thing--thingslike bead flowers, which can be beautiful. To me, silk flowers are likeFormica "marble" or Contact Paper woodgrain panels, or any other thingthat's pretending to be something that it's not. Some people don't mind, but other people find them not necessarily the dreaded "t"-word, but"artificial". Just my opinion. Others will certainly hold the oppositeopinion.SandyAs far as flowers go, I think the bride should be able to pick whatever shewants (silk, dried, real) without worrying about what others will think. It won't bother me in the least if my guests don't like the silk flowersI intend to use. I may even laugh if someone brings it up. The fact of thematter is that real flowers will most likely trigger a nasty allergicreaction in me, and my puffy, runny, red face would be a lot less attractivethan silk flowers. ;)
