wedding hair : Hi, I am getting married in June. I want to have a braided hairstyle - I'm thinking about puttingmy hair back and in a bun.For my headpiece, I would like to use a floral band (or wreath). My mom thinks I'm crazy. Shethinks I should have straight hair instead of braided hair. She's not into braids. Mind you, Icould wear both, no problem. I feel that having braids would be fine, and is just as beautiful asstraight hair. Do you think my mom has a point though? Its not an afrocentric wedding, but Ithink braids would be ok? Do you?Which would you be more comfortable in? And does it matter from apractical standpoint? (for instance, would braids be more likely tohold their shape throughout the wedding day while straight hair mightfall down/poke out oddly, or are they the same in that sense?)There are tons of ways to braid hair, no matter what length or style orcut. See if you can get an appointment with a hairdresser and look atsome books and describe a variety of styles to your mom, and ask her tohelp pick the best braided style, maybe?

wedding hair : If you feel you will look prettiest in braids on this occasion, wear braids. I live in a heavilyafro-american neighborhood and see such beautiful things done with hair!I just saw a wedding today on TV on that TLC wedding show. THe womanhad her braided hair pulled back into a bun for the ceromony to lookmore elegant then during the reception she let it all loose. Both waysit looked beautiful and there is nothing wrong with braids. It is yourwedding do what makes you comfortable. My only concern with braids would be to consider how they'll look in a fewyears. I remember going through my friend's wedding album and noticing thetrendy hairdos more than the celebration.I suppose that's true of ANY hairdo, though. But it's just something toconsider. My mom's wedding album. . . 1960's Mary Tyler Moore-type do! (Aqua bridesmaid'sdress, too!)I *think* the original questioner was referring to the sort of braids that arenow an afro-american traditional thing--pulled back into a bun, the effectwould be regal and dignified, as well as providing better bulk for anchoring aheadpiece. (Can you tell I envy women who can do this with their hair?)

wedding hair : Wende (who is going to have the same boring short brown hair as always)Definitely true of any wedding. And if it isn't the hair, it's theclothing or the makeup. :)Well, I do think it's entirely possible to have a "timeless" wedding. It'sthinking about all of these things in advance that can make it so. You don'thave to just accept the fact that your wedding pictures will look outdated. My mom was married in 1965 and her pictures look like they could have beentaken today. Sure, everyone looks a little less "modern" -- but wedding dressstyles haven't ever changed and you can chooose a hairstyle that will last. The biggest difference in her pictures is that they were hand brushed to addcolor and my grandmother is wearing a tailored suit instead of a beaded, dripping in sequins type mother of the bride dress. We **choose** to be trendy. We choose to be "different" - which usually meansthat we end up looking like everyone else AND we end up looking back at outpictures from the 80s and wondering WHO we are.. :)I would personally never choose something out of the ordinary for my weddingday -- but that's only because I would never choose something out of theordinary for my regular life. I'll wear my hair in a conservative twist thatwill be hidden under a veil and a simple, sleeveless gown with minimal beading. Those who choose to wear wide leg jeans and bare midriff tops and platformshoes (and I could go on and on) are perfectly in style today, but are probablyalready aware that they won't be in the future (except for maybe a fleetingmoment when 90s style comes back in like the 60s have).

wedding hair : Must be just me, but what is so bad about having a wedding that looks "dated?" Even things that aren't considered trendy will make the pictures look datedeventually. For example, size of bouquets vary from time to time, with the flowers goingfrom huge, flowing cascades to tiny nosegays to perfectly round bouquets.Eyewear of anyone in the wedding party, mothers or BMs included.Hair is no exception, IMO. While high buns/twists are popular now, theyweren't in the 80's. Likewise, a popular hairstyle of layers in the 80's looksdifferent from the flips of the 60's. I actually *like* looking back at familywedding pictures and knowing roughly what decade they were married! And *none*of us has ever done anything very trendy--wedding or otherwise!Have to agree - everything will appear *dated* at some point. The funny thing is, I recall when 2 of my sisters married in the 80's, with all the typical 80's style: ruffles, huge bouquets, foofy hair, etc...I didn't like that style even then. (my sisters were particularly trendy though, and the style was appropriate). My own style hasn't changed much over the years - (simple, classic clothes, plain ole boring hair:) ) so back then it was boring, now it's trendy! Same with the style I've anticipated for our wedding stuff : simple, classic so-called "timeless" styles, hand-tied bouquet (probably the same I would have picked 10 years ago...), which, silly me I used to *like* that it wasn't trendy, and now it IS! Oh well, the style will get dated and boring again and then I'll go back to being non-trendy :)

wedding hair : This is something I've been wondering for a little bit now, and someone keepsmentioning alt.fashion in another of my newsgroups, so I thought I'd drop by.I've got to say I LOVE this place! =)So. It occurred to me this is the best place to ask my question: should I cuta very light fringe of bangs for my wedding? I ask this because several peoplewho have seen these photos think it's not soft enough around my face, which isa concern since I'm going for a sort of ethereal fairy-queen type of look.(That and "wholesome midwestern girl" are about the only things I can pulloff. :) Practice wedding hair photos (in the salon and at the seamstresses'since I had my first dress fitting that day as well) are available at Pics of me and my sweetie the last time I had a bang (tho heavier than whatI'm considering now) are available atSince these are picture-intensive pages, they may take a while to load. And Iappreciate the trouble from anyone who takes the time to look at my picturesand offer me an opinion. :)I would consider doing your classic wispy tendril thing, but I know that ifthey're actually wispy, they'll frizz out and do nasty things by the end ofthe night, and if I go with a more substantial type of tendril, I'll wind uptucking them behind my ears and they'll get stringy and straight and generallyvery unappealing.
