wedding planner : What we have done is surf the net for schedules, etc. (when to send invitations? when to order flowers? Things like that...) We invested in a good etiquette book. Then we bought a big plastic box to keep all the wedding stuff - proposals, invitation catalogues, contracts, etc. We have tacked a blotter-sized calendar to the wall in our home office, where we can easily refer to find out when we're meeting with the monsignor, when we have to pay the photographer, when to go get the license, and so forth. Odds are you will wind up having to invest in a calendar, a storage place for all the wedding things, etc. anyway. When all the information you really need can be had for free (check out the web, the library, this group, etc.), why buy a planner which will likely look gorgeous, but be tucked away in a corner while the really functional stuff gets used much more often?I just used my Daytimer to record things, and used a couple of checklistsand timelines that I downloaded from the web. No problems.

I agree that some kind of planning system is important, butit's easy to assemble something that is custom tailored to /you/ and costsless than a "wedding planner."We had 6 months to plan, were doing it by ourselves with no "weddingexperts" to help us (not even moms - but that was better!), and we pulledit off splendidly.The first thing we did was get a schedule and tailored it to our own wantsand needs.I think having a good organizer to carry around is important. It doesn'thave to have "Wedding" stamped on it. What it does need, is: blank paper for notes calendar pages with room to write pockets for business cards holder for a pen (I suggest two colors so you can highlight payment due dates etc.) pockets for photos (the photographer and florist will want to see what the church looks like, and your friends will want to see what your gown looks like) places for loose papersI had so many loose papers I found an accordian folder useful.One benefit of getting a non-wedding planner for your wedding is that youcan continue to use it after the wedding.
wedding planner : BRIDE magazine published a great big wedding book...soft cover, white,pretty bride on the cover...It is very 90's, very updated, but it still contains everything traditional...It was incredibly useful in planning my wedding...I would heavily suggestto anyone!If you are looking for something to write in, try looking in local flowershoppes and so forth and they may have a local planner with local numbersin it...I know that my hometown had them everywhere, and they are veryhandy. Too bad you aren't in Toronto..WEDDING BELLS magazine publishes agreat wedding planner...I loved mine!good luck, and it's never too early to start planning...I learned that thehard way...jen...and aj, married in January 1997 but still addicted to this newsgroup!--* Jennifer McDonald *I just bought the Halmark wedding planner, and I love it. It's aloose-leaf style notebook , with plenty of pages for your guestlist, a calander section, and a bunch of other sections.Since it's loose-leaf I can add plastic page holders for contractsand info sheets from anyone I get estimates from. I can also add asection or two as I see fit.
wedding planner : Since I use a wedding planner software package, I can also printstuff out from that, and place it in the notebook when I go outI created one on my own with just a binder and some loose leaf pages. Ihave all of my receipts and bookings listing in clear plastic pages that aresectioned by criteria (i.e. wedding gown, reception, ceremony). I havebeen purchasing bridal magazines that come with enough ideas to produce manyweddings so I have never been short of suggestions. Any pictures orarticles that pertain to something I would like to include in my wedding gounder the perticular section.It only cost me a few dollars and works just as well as a planner that youcan purchase. ( It is nice to because you can really make it your own workof art)I have Beverly Clarks planner and I like it alot. It's not a 3 ringbinder, so you can't add pages, but she leaves extra pages at the end ofeach section so you can write in anything she doesn't already give you achecksheet for (although I haven't come across anything she hasn't alreadythought of). There are also pages with pockets to put your contracts andstuff like that in. She also has checkoff sheets for questions to askevery vendor you deal with, places to put quotes for price comparisons,etc.
