We'd like to find something that hasn't been read at every other wedding. There may not be anything we haven't read before. The weddings to which I've been don't have separate Bible readings --=20the wedding talk is an application of how various Bible passages can=20help the new husband and wife make a success of their marriage, so=20there's less need for a separate Bible reading. Sorry if I'm about to=20suggest old stuff. I won't suggest 1 Corinthians 13:4=967 (the Bible=92s definition of=20love) because that's almost certainly going to be a cliche. But how=20about: * Ephesians 5:28, 29, 31, 33 (how the husband should treat his wife) * Colossians 3:14, 19 (how the wife should treat her husband)These scriptures show the importance of qualities such as love, tender=20affection, mutual consideration, forgiveness, supporting one another,=20and respect. There's always Proverbs 31:10=9631 (a capable wife), but some might=20misconstrue this as counsel to the new wife that she should be a=20superwoman. It's another passage that seems likely to be a cliche. If you still can't find anything fresh, how about changing the Bible=20reading so that it's a reading plus some application to your lives? =20Maybe you could take some quality (like tender affection, respect, or=20forgiveness), read a scripture or two about it, then talk about how=20(or when) you could exercise that quality. wedding readings : Hi!I am looking for some readings for my May 2000 wedding andneed some help. I had found a very pretty poem on the web(from someone's wedding) but now can't find it. The titleof it was "Why Marriage", but I haven't got a clue who theauthor of it was. I did have part of it and it goessomething like this:"Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person, with all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body . . .Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimaciesof me, who won't hold them against me, who loves me whenI'm unlikable, who sees the small child in me, and looks forthe divine potential of me . . . " (and it goes on)I need the rest of it and the person that used it edited it.I'd like the original entire version so I can see if I'dlike to use it.Also, as part of the ceremony our JP ties a ribbon aroundus. I have been doing some research and belive this iscalled "handfasting". Does anyone know anything about thisor has anyone done this in their wedding? I'd like to getsome background/general info as I'd like to include it inthe program. wedding readings : Check the web pages of couples who were recently married. Some provide thetext for their entire wedding ceremony, and you can get some ideas there forvarious readings, either spiritual, dramatic, romantic, or humorous. Also, check web pages for nondenominational clergy who advertise availability forweddings. Sometimes they provide the text for a typical wedding. Also, consider the classic poems and such. Shakespeare, Barrett-Browning, etc.provide excellent ideas for wedding readings. I got my hands on a web page afew years ago that provided many, many romantic poems. It included thoselisted above, but also Christopher Marlow's "THe Passionate Shepherd to HisLove" which starts out Come live with me and be my love, and we will all thepleasures prove..... And Anne Bradstreet's "To My Dear and Loving Husband"which starts out with, If ever two were one, then surely we, If ever man wereloved by wife, then thee.... And Roy Croft's "On Friendship", which starts outwith I love you not for what you are, but what I am when I am with you, I loveyou not only for what you have made of yourself but what you are making ofme......
