wedding shoes uk : That's not completely true. It's still the norm to have weddings in church but with newly licenced wedding receptions some people are going for more civil weddings now. I've only been to one wedding as described above and that was a second wedding. Although due to a growth in athiesm the civil alternatives are becoming more popular for some but amoungst my age group (20s) things are still quite formal.Often whilst this happens a piece of music is played or a soloist sings to make it more entertaining.This is normally the case if there's any little girls to ask (hence in an earlier posting me feeling odd about having taller bridesmaids - I've never been to a wedding were they have been taller than the bride)We have some photos of us negotiating this before cutting theNo we don't - we wrap the cake up and give it out to people as they leave. Weddings in Church or Registry office account for 90% of the weddings... both of these options leave little room for 'personalising' a ceremony. Most weddings are followed by at least one reception (getting more common to only have one judging by the ones I've been to recently) and usually two - an 'Evening' reception which is basically a party for all the people you would have wanted to invite to the sit-down but couldn't afford to.

Other bridesmaids inbetween.The main difference between the UK and the US is that we would generally NOT ask our bridesmaids to pay for their own dresses etc - I was HORRIFIED when I read stories about brides demanding things of their bridesmaids... in the UK the bridesmaids dresses, shoes, hair etc are generally paid for by the 'bridal financer' - I guess this allows the bride to 'have it any way she wants'.Also, I don't think its normal to have as many people in the wedding party as they seem to have in the US.

Ushers do not walk down the aisle, and nor do any other family members. I get the impression this is different to the US?Yes, slightly. In the weddings I've been to, the bridesmaids and groomsmenwalk down the aisle first, followed by the flowergirl and ring bearer, andthe last in the procession is the Bride and her father. I've also seen itdone where the flowergirl and ringbearer went first, then the bridesmaidsand groomsmen, followed by the bride and father.I'd agree. Some people do ahve rehersals, but only for big weddings orones involving a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between celebrate andmusicians and readings etc etc. not common, and certainly no meal oranything afterwards.As has been mentioned by other respondants, this is when music isplayed, or a reading given. At the Charles and Diana wedding (if anyonecan remember that far back) it was when Kiri Te Kanawa sang, thus firstbringing her to the attention of a non opera going public. And everyone gets a chance for a gossip(read compliemnt the bride) mid-ceremony!

It is very common to have all adult attendents - the past three weddingsI've been to have all been adult attendents because that was the age ofthe brides' sisters, friends snd sisters-in-law. I was a bridesmaid whenyoung for my cousin where the bridesmaids where 7, 7 and 14 which wasunusual but her sister who married the year before had one flower girl(as they are sometimes called, but this is often thought a bitdownmarket or twee) and three adult bridesmaids. Page booys are quitecommon, but again, only if there are young boys in the family. And whileyou don't really have bridesmaids who are taller than the bride thatoften results from judiscious selection of heel heights! There isnothing short of getting stilts I can do to make myself taller than my
wedding shoes uk : On the cake thing, at Paul's sister's wedding in Altrincham we sat next toa couple who told us that they have kept the top of the cake in theirfreezer for 8 years. Paul was very disgusted by this, it really put himoff their dinner. They told us that after a few years it went a bitmoldy, but they re-iced it and now it's fine.So that was something Paul was very firm about ("we're not having that!").But the dining hall manager saved the top of our cake anyhow (here it'susual to save it for the first anniversary). I'm thinking maybe we'll eatit when he arrives (he interviewed at the London embassy today, the visais all set, and he arrives here 4 April).Another difference is of course, the cake. English wedding cakes arenormally fruitcake with marzipan and fondant icing. We had what Paulinsisted on calling "sponge" with buttercream icing.Paul and I taste-tested cakes together and he was stunned that the icingwas soft. (Of course the first time I ever saw an English cake with areal satin ribbon tied around it, I was also blown away.) He made mepromise I wouldn't tell his parents as he wanted them to be surprised. (Idon't know whether they were.) We wouldn't have had a traditional Englishwedding cake in any event as the bride is allergic to nuts. His parentsdid comment that they liked having the wedding cake as dessert.When I was a little girl you would sometimes get little boxes of cake totake home and put under your pillow to dream about the man you wouldmarry, but I haven't seen any of those in a long time in the U.S.Meg (married to Paul November 9, 1996)
