Theyset it up, so we figured "why not", again.Up on hwy 17, going from Los Gatos toward Santa Cruz, there used to bea little chappel. That's where the deed took place. My father-in-lawcouldn't make it, so his brother stood in for him. When it was timefor Kathy to take her last march of freedom, she was hesitant. Heruncle just grabbed her arm and said "Let's go" and dragged her up the isle to her doom.

It'supdated every year. We used it to find our wedding site (ByingtonWinery). We also found the Mariani Vineyards in it, which had aprivate wedding site in a grove of redwoods next to a mountain stream.You can find the book in the Travel or Wedding sections of mostbookstores for less than $20. There are many people on this ng whoare planning or have planned weddings that were somewhat unconventional/non-traditional (sometimes, but not always, because they couldn't afford alavish, formal, traditional wedding), and have heard a *lot* of criticism(partly here, but also from people in Real Life) about how what they wereplanning (reception food or alcohol, or lack thereof; music orentertainment; attire; guest list; et al.) was tacky or inappropriate orJust Not Done. There's also lots of media/ wedding industry hype whichimplies that every bride wants/ needs/ should have a certain type ofwedding, and every bride's parents should shell out scads of money to fundit ... which either pressures people into spending more than they want to/can afford *or* makes those who just can't or don't want to feel liketheir wedding is somehow second-rate. I have no problem with askingsomeone who makes unconventional wedding plans what made them choose X, orrespectfully suggesting, "Hey, have you thought about these potentialcomplications," but implying that their choices are tacky or low-classwithout understanding the reasons behind them, IMHO, just isn't fair.
wedding site : FWIW, I never considered getting married at Wal-Mart either, but I *can*kinda speculate as to the possible reasons behind it. I used to work in agrocery store, and a surprising number of close friendships and evenromances began and blossomed on the job. If any of these couples gotmarried (and I knew at least 1 that did), and decided to have the weddingin the store, I would've thought it was pretty funny, but tacky? Nah.I guess I could explain...I titled my post tacky wedding site in hopes that people would be more compelled to read it and respond, not necessarily to say that anyone who chooses an unconventional site is tacky. I don't see why other people have to always reply like someone has bad intents or is trying to be mean. No one ever gives someone the benefit of the doubt. Besides, if it was my opinion that a site was tacky, so what? You're going to be offended just because we don't share the same view? Diversity makes things fun and interesting. I know that some people on the ng have had unconventional/non-traditional weddings. This is what I wanted to hear about!! wedding site : Hey, this was my dad's first suggestion for my wedding! He and I are bigball fans, and I practically grew up at Exhibition Stadium -- thenproceeded to work at SkyDome when it opened (for three fabulous seasons --unfortunately left the first season they won the Series...anyway).WE (Dad and I) thought it would be cool to have Julian and I marry on homeplate, and then have the reception in the restaurant overlooking thefield, where we'd also watch a night game going on. We could have even had a tiny wedding and still done this -- by rentingone of the hotel rooms or suites overlooking the game.Alas, my fiance doesn't really like baseball, and thought this was strange-- and tacky. Considering how many hours Dad and I have spent there, itmight only be appropriate for his funeral, where I give the eulogy, butI'm not marrying my father so that baseball wedding ain't gonna happen.On the "strange weddings" note, we thought of a Star Wars wedding but inthe end thought we didn't want to act or dress like other people whenmaking this solemn commitment. Same goes for the idea to be married inStratford, Ontario (home of the Stratford Shakespearian theatre festival,where the FOG lives) - where we would have been married in t heShakespearian Gardens or on stage, and then had a wedding fest -- al l inperiod clothes. Again, with both these ideas, my dad loved them but mymother didn't even think the joke was funny -- let alone entertaining thethought as a real idea!
