wedding vows : My husband & I have decided to renew our wedding vows on our 10thanniversary (August 23, 1998). Now comes the hard part......this ismy 2nd marriage and my husband's first. When we got married, we wentto the justice of the peace, had a 15-min. ceremony, and that wasthat. When we renew our vows, we'd like to do it in a church with atraditional wedding, since my husband never got to have a formalceremony the first time around. Problem is, I don't know WHERE tostart! Should I wear a traditional gown?? Can we use traditionalvows like we would if we were getting married for the first time, ordo we have to use different ones? We're not talking a large weddinghere.....there will be less than 50 guests. Are there any booksavailable that someone here can recommend? We both would have justone attendant. Can we light a memory candle and a unity candle??Someone please help!!!............wickettDoes anyone know the proper *etiquette* on renewing vows? I would like todo so maybe every 10 years or so. I think it is a wonderful idea. I am nottalking about having a big gathering everytime, just a romantic getaway tothe Caribbean or Lake Tahoe, or someplace to do this. IS there a *rule*, Iguess, is what I am asking on the "proper" anniversaries to do this?

wedding vows : I still have somewhere a copy of the book from my wedding, whichwas entirely in Latin.I mean *entirely,* except for the few moments when the priestforgot and came out with something in English (this was 1971 andhe hadn't used Latin for nearly a decade).Trouble is, the parts about "I, N., take you, N., to be mylawful wife/husband" appears to be period. Only it goes "EgoJohannes accipio te Mariam in mean legitimam sponsam," etc.,which may sound nicer but your friends will probably notunderstand it. Maybe it will sound nicer *because* they won't understand it.It doesn't matter, really, in period you (unless Jewish) would'veused the standard Church ceremony. You certainly do not have torecreate an entire Mass, and in fact I advise against it, itwould offend both non-Catholics (because it's a Mass) andCatholics (because it isn't real), not to mention being againstG&PD6.Maybe the way out of this is for your Baron to explain (asin-persona as he is wont to be) that you were married quickly andsecretly while traveling in far lands, and he has deemed itappropriate for you to repeat your vows before him and all theassembled populace.
